The Proteas have announced two new head coaches for the national men’s side, with the role being split, for the first time, into Tests and limited overs.
Rob Walter, who currently coaches Otago in New Zealand and had previously been the coach of the Titans in South Africa as well as the Proteas conditioning coach will take over as the head coach of the T20 and ODI sides. Walter also coached the New Zealand A side on occasion.
Conrad also has experience in the South African domestic game, having coached the Cape Cobras, the Lions, as well as the SA U/19 side.
Both coaches will have their work cut out for them. The Proteas T20 side failed to qualify for the knockouts of the last T20 World Cup for the second tournament in a row, losing to the Netherlands in the group stages. The team is also in danger of not qualifying automatically for the ODI World Cup.
The Proteas Test side has also had a poor set of results of late, losing their last two series, against England and Australia respectively.
