AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo is reportedly due back in court in June on charges of malicious damage to property and assault, after attacking his family at the royal palace in the early hours on Friday.
The controversial king, who was out on parole after serving 4 years of a 12-year sentence for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and arson, was released with a warning after a brief appearance in court on Friday.
The case was remanded to 1 June.
Acting abaThembu King, Azenathi Dalindyebo and his wife were reported to be recovering after they were injured in the attack.
The king apparently ‘went on the rampage’ in the Bumbane Great Place, resulting in his son Azenathi’s wife being hospitalised. Azenathi was seen limping. Dalindyebo had refused to see his son since his release from prison.
Dalindyebo stormed the premises at 2am on Friday, throwing out Azenathi’s clothing and breaking furniture. Dalindyebo allegedly arrived carrying an axe. Family members, police and villagers looked on helplessly. Dalindyebo was eventually arrested and taken to Bityi police station in Mthatha.
