Former Donald Trump attorney Sidney Powell has pleaded guilty in the case brought by the state of Georgia. The case alleges that Trump, Powell and 16 other accused sought to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
Powell reportedly took a plea deal where she will be given six years of probation. Powell will also be required to testify at future trials, write an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia, pay nearly $9,000 in restitution and fines, and turn over documents.
Powell admitted to taking actions after the 2020 election “for the purpose of wilfully tampering with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines”.
The news is likely a blow to Trump’s defence, as Powell is the second accused to plead guilty. This is on condition that the two cooperate with the prosecution.
