The successor to Leo Varadkar, the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, has been confirmed.

Varadkar, who resigned unexpectedly last week, will be succeeded by Simon Harris. At 37, Harris will be the youngest person to ever serve as Taoiseach.

Harris was confirmed as Varadkar’s successor after he was unelected unopposed as leader of the Fine Gael party over the weekend. Varadkar had been leader of Fine Gael since 2017.

Fine Gael is currently in coalition with the Green Party and Fianna Fail.

Harris will officially become Taoiseach when the Irish parliament reconvenes after the Easter recess early next month.
