Wales has appointed its first female First Minister.
Eluned Morgan was elected last week, succeeding Vaughan Gething, who had been Wales’s first black First Minister.
Morgan, a member of the Labour Party, succeeded Gething after he resigned, following a corruption scandal. She had also succeeded Gething as the leader of the Welsh Labour Party in July.
Morgan had been a member of the Welsh Parliament, the Senedd, since 2016 and served as a minister in the government since 2021. She had also previously been a member of the European Parliament.
Morgan was quoted by the BBC as saying that it was: “the greatest honour of my life to stand before you today as the first woman to become the first minister of Wales.”
